About two and a half months after the fatal shot on an escaped zebra in Rostock, the prosecutor has stopped the investigation. The shooter was not accused of criminally relevant behavior, said the authority.
The animal named Pumba had escaped from a circus in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania at the beginning of October together with a second zebra and had caused an accident on the highway 20. The second animal could be caught quickly.
After circus employees and the police had pursued Pumba for hours, finally shot a staff of the animal rescue team of the fire brigade the animal and thus sparked heated discussions. The persecutors could have stunned the zebra with anesthetics, said the director of the affected circus'. The distance was too big for that, said the city of Rostock.
On Monday, a further complaint against the shooter for violations of the animal protection law was received, among other things, the NDR reported, citing the prosecutor. This ad has not been edited yet.
