Italy tries to create a system in view of the appointment with Expo 2020 Dubai, ten months from the start of the first universal exhibition hosted by a Middle Eastern country, an event that will be attended by 25 million visitors but on which they will light their headlights also many investors from all over the world.
The Commissioner for Italy, Paolo Glisenti, has signed two memorandums of understanding, one with Italian companies in the life sciences and agribusiness sector, represented by the Alisei and Clan clusters, and one with Assolombarda, with the aim of involving them in the construction of an event that represents an important showcase for our country and its excellence in the field of nutrition, food safety and health.
The collaboration with Alisei and Clan "paves the way for a partnership" with companies, universities and research centers "that will make the participation of the Italian agri-food and research system a pillar of the Dubai Universal Exposition" declared Glisenti on the occasion of the signing of protocols with Diana Bracco (Alisei), Luigi Scordamaglia (Clan) and Carlo Bonomi (Assolombarda). "Today - he added - Italy can really aspire to show an international leadership in the innovative part that brings together the best of scientific research, of health with the best of production, of the technological capacity also of agricultural and food companies".
But the protocol will also commit the Italian delegation to favor contacts and relationships between Italian companies and other countries, in order not to waste the "huge business opportunities" linked to an event that, according to a study by the Milan Polytechnic, could attract on Italy 1.6 billion euros a year of investments in five years.
"The Expo - explained Glisenti - will be visited by large investment funds, sovereign wealth funds, private equity. I believe it will be a truly unique opportunity for our companies".
Vision shared by Bonomi: with the memorandum of understanding, he said, "we make ourselves available to the Italian Pavilion convinced that Dubai 2020 will be a great showcase, a great opportunity for our companies that we want to exploit".
