ROME - The number of organic wines and sparkling wines uncorked in 2018 increases, the sector shows an increase both in terms of turnover (+ 38.6% in 2018) and in terms of the share of the total in the sector with an incidence of 1, 4%. The economic trend (source Sinab) is communicated with the signing of the agreement reached between FederBio (Federation of organizations of organic and biodynamic agriculture) and Uiv-Unione Italiana Vini for the enhancement and protection of the Italian organic wine sector. The report also shows that in the first eight months of 2019 sales of organic wine in large-scale distribution reached 35.2 million euros with an exponential growth of 363% compared to 2016 (Bio Nomisma Observatory). It is also reported that in the last eight years, Italian organic viticulture has more than doubled (+ 107% from 2011 to 2018) and underlined that, with an incidence of 15.8%, Italy is the first country for share of organic vineyard on the total vineyard surface. The newly formed partnership between the two organizations - a note explains - plans to focus on the quality and authenticity of the wine produced in Italy with organic and biodynamic, regulated and certified methods, to support the internationalization of Italian companies in the wine sector. Finally, we inform you that the various issues relating to the production of organic wine will be treated within the Uiv Technical Table already activated. It is explained that the parties will consult each other to define together planning, dissemination, technical, training and promotional initiatives in Italy and abroad.
