Snapchat is preparing to make deepfake within reach of a message. The chat note is in fact working on a new function that allows the user to put his own selfie on the face of a person who appears in a video. The novelty is called Cameo and has just arrived - as a test - in the hands of some French users.
Deepfake is a technique that uses artificial intelligence to superimpose a different face on the face of a person who is shot in a video, creating an identity exchange. The tool, used from the beginning to insert the face of famous actresses in porn movies, in Snapchat is in a hyper-simplified version and serves essentially to create gif images with one's own face to share them through the app.
The new function, tested in France from the weekend just ended, will be available to users in 2020. As the company explained to the TechCrunch site, "the Cameos are not yet ready to go on stage, but stay tuned for their next global debut ".
