'Moderate' avalanche hazard in Friuli Venezia Giulia (ANSA)

It could snow tomorrow on large parts of Emilia-Romagna. Arpae and Civil Protection have in fact spread a yellow alert, the lightest, for Thursday, December 12, when the transit of a perturbation of Atlantic origin is expected with weak-moderate precipitation already from the first hours of the night. Snow is expected up to the ground over the whole territory except for the coastal strip where the phenomena will be of rain mixed with snow. The expected quantities are around 5 centimeters in the lowland areas, around 15 centimeters in the hilly areas and 30 centimeters in the central-western mountains (lower values on the Romagna mountains). The phenomena are foreseen in temporary attenuation in the second part of the day starting from the western sector.

The unified operating room of the Tuscany Region has issued a yellow code for snow on all areas near the Apennines from 3 am to 3 pm on Thursday 12 December. The yellow code also covers the ice that may form after snowfall and is active from 8pm to midnight. Snowfall will be possible following a disturbance in transit over Tuscany associated with cold air that will bring scattered rainfall and low-level snowfall in the central northern provinces.

Heavy snowfall is occurring in the Sila of Cosenza, with more intense precipitation, in particular, in San Giovanni in Fiore, Colosimi and Acri. The Anas personnel and vehicles are at work to ensure the transit of the roads. The major commitment of the state road company, which is using ten vehicles, including salt spreaders, turbines and snow plows and 11 operators, is concentrated on 107 Silana-Crotonese, 660 "di Acri" and 177 "Silana di Rossano" , where accumulations of several centimeters of the snow cover are recorded. Traffic is currently regular on all roads and there are no particular inconveniences.

Avalanche danger 'moderate', today and tomorrow, on the Alps of Friuli Venezia Giulia, 'weak' on the Prealps. Today, on the very steep slopes above 1800-1900 meters, the accumulations of old and new wind-blown snow - the Bulletin informs - if they are solicited they can generally break away with heavy overload, even if in particular in the Julian Alps and Canin is not excluded detachment with weak overloading on some very localized sites (ridges, hairpins, canals) of the highest slopes. The detachments will give rise to avalanches of small and medium dimensions that are dangerous, mostly due to the sliding effect. On grassy slopes, in areas with the presence of cracks, the possibility of posting avalanches from slippage remains, although decreasing. On the Alpine foothills it is possible to detach small avalanches with heavy overload on steep slopes.
