Severe weather: 70-year-old dies in stormy weather in France

In the French Basque country, a man has been involved in a fatal accident in violent storm gusts. In the southwest, around 200,000 households were without electricity.



Squalls have caused a traffic accident in France with one dead man. A 70-year-old died when he drove his car against a fallen tree on the road. The man could only be recovered dead, as the rescue forces announced. The disaster occurred in the municipality of Ilharre in the French Basque Country.

In southwestern France, five people were injured by falling trees, according to authorities. Around 200,000 households were temporarily without electricity.

In the night of Friday storms were swept over the Atlantic coast with wind speeds of up to 140 kilometers per hour. Also on the English Channel and on Corsica warned the weather service Météo France from strong wind and rain.
