Five other people were seriously injured when several trees fell on vehicles in the Lot-et-Garonne and Landes departments.
There were also widespread power cuts on Saturday. 40,000 households were temporarily without electricity, as the energy supplier Enedis announced. In the evening, 15,000 households were still affected. The previous day, the electricity in almost 70,000 households had failed.
On Friday, the wind had reached a speed of up to 142 km / h, as the French weather service Météo-France announced on Twitter. Up to 175 km / h were recorded in Corsica. At some measuring stations, new maximum values had been measured.
