50 corpses discovered on farm in Mexico

2019-12-15T08:26:10.236Z

Around a hundred people are murdered in Mexico every day. Now investigators on a farm in the west of the country have exhumed the remains of dozens of people.

The Mexican authorities recovered dozens of dead and body parts from a farm in the western state of Jalisco. After several weeks of work, the remains of a total of 50 people were found on the homestead in El Mirador south of Guadalajara.

The investigators had received the clue from suspects in police hearings. As a result, the authorities came across the site in November and began exhuming, local media reported. More information about the background should therefore only be communicated after further investigations.

Mexico has had a massive problem with violent crime for years. Last year, over 36,000 murders were registered in the country, which has a population of around 130 million - almost a hundred per day. A gunfight in the state of Coahuila had recently killed 14 people.

The violence is largely due to gangs involved in drug trafficking, kidnapping and extortion. Most crimes in Mexico are never punished.
