Plastic waves crashing on the beach in South Africa, in the city of Durban. The floating waste was taken up in a video made on December 12 by Litterboom project volunteers, an African NGO that fights marine pollution; and it immediately became viral, after being re-launched on twitter by CNN meteorologist Derek Van Dam.
WAVES OF PLASTIC LITTER DURBAN COASTLINE: This video (taken 12/12) is disturbing on so many levels. I understand that there is a lot of things to play but surely we can find a solution that our garbage doesn't end up in our oceans like this?

According to the environmental association the blame for this 'tide of waste' is the "mismanagement by the local authorities, and the uncontrolled disposal of the slums on the banks of the rivers". Furthermore, the floods and floods of the last few days in South Africa have highlighted the problem even more, with the result that the beach has become an expanse of bottles, debris, waste and plastic.
