(ANSA) - LONDON, DECEMBER 16 - There is a new Father of the House among British MPs who have returned to gather in Westminster after Thursday's elections. But there is also a new entry that won the title of the youngest member of the lot at just 23 years old and that the BBC has already renamed "Baby of the House".
The Father of the House, or deputy with parliamentary majority, becomes 75-year-old conservative Sir Peter Bottomley, in Parliament since 1975. Bottomley, former sub-secretary in the Thatcher governments, takes over from Kenneth Clarke, former minister and rebel anti-Brexit Tory not standing again after half a century as a deputy (starting in 1970). The Baby of the House is instead one of the young hopes of the Labourcorbynian escaped defeat, Nadia Whittome, elected in the Nottingham East college after having overwhelmed the transfugablairian Chris Leslie. Mother of the House, as long-time deputatadonna, remains the moderate laborer Harriet Harman, former interim leader of the Labor Party, re-elected.
