The number of road accident victims in Italy continues to grow. (HANDLE)

(ANSA) - ROME, DECEMBER 16 - Road accident victims continue to grow in Italy. The Istat-Aci estimates - based on preliminary results for the first half of 2019 - show a decrease, compared to the same period of 2018, both in accidents with injuries (-1.3%) and in injuries (-2.9%), while they are rising steadily ( + 1.3%). From 1 January to 30 June, the incidents amounted to 82,048 (on average 453 per day: 19 per hour) and caused 1,505 deaths (8 per day: 1 every 3 hours) and 113,765 injured (628 per day: 26 each Now). A definite "worrying" trend that removes Italy from the European goal of 50% reduction of road deaths by 2020, which fell by 23.6% compared to 2010 and by 54.2% compared to 2001. The increase in victims it is recorded, in particular, on motorways (over 25%) and on suburban roads (+ 0.3%). For urban roads, on the other hand, a reduction of about 3% is estimated.
