(ANSA) - ROME, DECEMBER 16 - Immigrants for the first time in decline in Italy (-17% last year those from Africa), while their co-nationals who move abroad to increase (+ 1.9%) instead job search. In 2015 alone, 117 thousand were registered, a figure that has boosted 816 thousand expatriates in the last decade. This is a digiovani army (the average age is around 30), qualified: almost 3 out of 4 have a medium-high level of education and in figures is equal to about 182 thousand the number of graduates who have packed their bags in the last 10 years. The favorite destination is the United Kingdom and the region with the most departures is Lombardy.
But it is above all the South that is depleted of precious human resources, also to the advantage of the regions of the Center-North: last year alone it lost over 16 thousand graduates, over half (8500) came from Sicily and Campania. This is the framework that emerges from the Istat report on registrations and cancellations of the resident population for 2018.
