In the process of attacking two fighting dogs on a teenager, the district court in Heidelberg sentenced the main defendant to a youth sentence of two and a half years. The court saw it as proven that the 17-year-old released two American Staffordshire terriers on a boy on a Pentecost Sunday field in Leimen in Baden-Württemberg.
The animals injured the 16-year-old's face, arm and back of the head. According to the prosecutor's office, the victim owes it to chance that he is still alive. The court found the dog handler guilty of aggravated assault with dangerous bodily harm.
The 22-year-old dog owner, who had given the dogs to his underage brother contrary to the regulations, was sentenced to one year suspended sentence for negligent bodily harm - as was the 22-year-old companion of the main accused.
The companion had gone for a walk with the 17-year-old with the dogs and had released the animal entrusted to him at his behest. Previously, the later victim and his companions had asked the two to keep the dogs, which were not on a leash, in check.
