"Around Giulio Regeni a cobweb was tightened by the Egyptian National Security since October before the kidnapping and murder . A spider web in which the apparatuses used the people closest to Giulio in Cairo, including his roommate lawyer, the trade unionist of street vendors and Noura Whaby, her friend who helped him with translations ". This was stated by the prosecutor Sergio Colaiocco who was heard, together with the prosecutor Michele Prestipino, before the commission of inquiry into the death of Regeni ("A spider's web - adds Colaiocco - which is tightening more and more is where Giulio ended up in the center".

"The Prosecutor's Office - added Prestipino - will continue with determination to carry out all the activities to continue to acquire evidence to ascertain what happened", which underlined that "the action carried out by the family that has constantly exercised a great "activity aimed at the search for truth".

"There is a difficulty - added Prestipino - in coordinating our judicial activity with the judicial initiative of Egypt also because there are no judicial cooperation agreements between the two countries. Despite all these difficulties I can affirm that we have achieved since here extremely positive results . We have succeeded thanks to the extraordinary capacity of our investigative departments, Sco and Ros, to reconstruct the perimeter of what happened in that time frame ". Prestipino explained that "we managed to reconstruct the context of the murder, the days before the seizure, the activity of the Egyptian apparatuses towards Giulio culminating in the kidnapping, managing to clear the field of fanciful hypotheses about the kidnapping, from the espionage activity to the robbery. Hypothesis - explained Prestipino - definitively set aside. We have identified individuals who were suspected and for this reason were entered in the register of suspects ".

"In these years - Claudio and Paola Regeni affirm, after the first meeting of the commission - we have had to fight against violence, misleading, silence, teasing and betrayal. We are grateful to our prosecutors and investigative teams for the tireless work done in these four years in synergy with us and our lawyer. If today we have the names of some of those responsible for the kidnapping, torture and killing of Giulio and if some of those names are entered in the register of suspects we owe it to them ".

Commenting on the words of the Rome prosecutor Michele Prestipino and deputy Sergio Colaiocco heard today by the parliamentary commission of inquiry into the death of the young Friulian, the parents continued: "In these years we have learned how precious trust is. Today for the first time i our prosecutors have been able to make public the efforts and results of their work and from today anyone in Egypt and in Italy knows that our trust in them is well placed. Their and our investigation work must be supported with decision and honest by our politics and any European institution that professes to be democratic ". For Regeni's parents "the inviolability of bodies and human life, the protection of inviolable rights and among these the right of citizens to have truth and obtain justice, the dignity of persons and governments are essential values that must prevail over any opportunism politician or personal demand, without further delay or distraction, truth for Giulio and for all of us it is a duty and an absolute right We trust that the commission of inquiry will know how to support with humility, respect and intelligence the work of our magistracy and our legal".
