VENTOTENE - The traditional appointment with the living nativity scene returns to Ventotene: a series of 'pictures' of the sacred representation that animate, as every year, the village and the natural caves of the island. Along the way to the nativity scene, marked with illustrations in Italian and Hebrew, you will encounter shops, products, foods and customs of an ancient Ventotene, in a scenario of 2000 years ago. The appointment is for December 28th and 29th and January 3rd.
The route of the representation, depicting the most important scenes of the Christian nativity, branches out inside the 'Grottone', the tunnel that connects the port area with the Calanave beach, in different stations each of which represents a particular moment of the birth of Christ. Each character wears period costumes, reproduced in minute detail, which also recall the ways and customs of the historic Ventotenese tradition and of the lower Lazio. A space is reserved for the rediscovery of typical products, the genuineness and quality of food, local flavors, such as the lentil ritual, cooked in front of the spectators and enjoyed immediately. Always different actions and movements highlight the ancient art of crafts which have almost disappeared today, jobs that are transformed into educational notes for young people, in an invitation to rediscover the pleasure of manual skills to learn by doing.
