The connection between religion and pride has never been simple. In a new song and clip, author Asaf Orr presents the conflict, the difficulties and the dealing with the issue. "I wanted religious youth who are in the closet to look like you can live as a whole person, through the prohibitions and labels," says Assaf

The clip for the song "As You Request", collected light

"I'm Standing In Front Of You" is the key line in the song and the new clip, "As You Requested," by Asaf Orr. The poem touches, unashamedly, on the issues and difficulties of connecting religion and pride, along with frustrations and dealing with family and friends.

"The song was written as a kind of prayer," Asaf tells Walla Pride. "Standing Against You Whole" was written out of a real conversation between me and God, a bit like a son confronting his father, demanding: Look at me, I am complete with my love, I am complete with who I am, with all my qualities. "You wanted me that way," a complete, happy man who should not live in fear and secrecy. All this in one request: Get me, see me. "

Why did you decide to write the song?

"'As You Wanted' is the first song that speaks openly about coming out of the closet and I wrote it on the background of the homophobia I experienced in various settings, including in the military by yeshivas. Hours of discussion about the tension between Jewish identity and sexual orientation I was present in brought me to the closet right up until the day I was released .

Clashing with religion in the context of my sexual orientation manifested itself in different frameworks throughout my life, but when I came out of the closet on social networks, it was precisely then that I received surprising support from those extremist Yeshivas who spoke out against the LGBT. My conversations with them in this place filled me with light and inspiration.
The song is an attempt to connect who I am to those who threaten my identity.

Do you have a message for someone in a similar situation?

"I wanted religious teens who are in the closet to look like you can live as a whole person, through the prohibitions and labels.
I played the song to a lot of different people, religious and secular, LGBT and straight, in the country and in India. I was amazed each time how much the song emitted from people. Each and every one of them, dealing with society and frameworks. When we all have one thing in common: the desire to have the strength to stand Strong and stable in the face of those who disqualify us. That's what the song seeks to give. "
