The songwriter Eli Willis, who is also known as the writer of the opening song for the series "Friends," passed away last night (Tuesday) at the age of 72, in Los Angeles, as a result of a sudden heart attack. Willis has signed hundreds of well-known songs in pop culture, and has worked with names such as the Pat Shop Boys, Dusty Springfield, Bob Dylan, James Brown, Herbie Hancock and others.

Willis's songs have sold over 60 million copies worldwide and she has also won two Grammy Awards. The first was given to her for her contribution to the soundtrack of the hit movie "The Beverly Hills Trooper." She also wrote "You're the Best", the theme song for the popular martial arts movie "The Karate Kid."

Among her best-known songs is of course "I'll Be There For You", the iconic opening song for the "Friends" sitcom. She co-wrote it in 1995 with series creators David Crane and Martha Kaufman, for the Rembrandt band. Later, in the light of the series' popularity, the opening tone became a full-length song. "I'll Be There For You" won by Willis for describing "The Whiteest Song I've ever written." The song was nominated for the Emmy Award in its release year. Although he did not win, it was one of the most well-known opening songs in the history of television, which contributed greatly to the success of the series.

A huge hit earlier that she signed is the September song by Earth, Wind & Fire, released in 1978. She claims it is the most beloved song she wrote. Singer Taylor Swift recorded last year's cover of the song, which has not received much sympathy from Willis. Back in 2018, Willis entered the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
