Sacking the money and fleeing quickly is the usual scenario of bank robbery. Not so on the day before Christmas Eve in Colorado Springs in the USA: A man is said to have robbed a bank and then distributed some of the loot on the street, best wishes for the festival. At least that's what a witness reports, who is quoted by the broadcaster KKTV.
The alleged robber came from a bank in Colorado Springs, called "Merry Christmas" and threw bills out of a sack, the witness said. The local police did not want to confirm the festive greetings and the money blessing on the street, but they did want to confirm the bank robbery itself, as the "Denver Post" reports.
A 65-year-old man, gray hair, white beard, threatened the employees and asked for money. Then he left the building with his prey. The police did not want to announce how much money the man was sacking. The alleged bank robber sat in a café after the robbery and was arrested without resistance, said a police spokesman for the "Denver Post". Part of the money stolen was returned to the bank, but thousands of dollars were still missing.
The witness reported to the KKTV broadcaster that passers-by had picked up the flying tickets and returned them to the bank. The 65-year-old is to be brought before the judge on Thursday. He is said to have been unarmed when he was arrested.
