Victoria Schmitt's resourcefulness and quick treatment of Assuta Ashdod saved her husband Ziv (52) who suffered a severe heart attack.

"My husband returned from the gym like every Friday," Victoria says. "He is a healthy person, with no medical history, but this time something was strange. He came home and I noticed that he was 'not what he was.' He went to the bathroom, bent over the toilet as if to throw up, and when I followed, I noticed he was falling."

Victoria laid her husband down and began massaging his chest, with the other hand calling MDA, but kept on massaging. "I did it without having a background in first aid, maybe because I remembered seeing something in the movie."

MDA drives continued the resuscitation efforts that lasted for several minutes in the apartment, and later Ziv was transferred to Assuta Ashdod Hospital, where he was rushed to the operating room, and underwent catheterization.

In the following days, his body cools to prevent brain damage, and he was hospitalized for 11 days, breathing and falling asleep. The fear was that the heart attack caused a brain event and irreparable injury, but after more than a week the hospital began to wake him gradually, and to everyone's surprise, he woke up and regained full consciousness. He was later moved to rehabilitation and is now back home.

Prof. Eli Lev, director of the heart system at Assuta Ashdod, says: "It is rare that a person, after such a severe heart attack and after almost two weeks of coma, woke up without injury. This is a rare and special case. There was a successful combination where all the vertebrae worked well, starting with the woman who operated. Properly in the first few moments, MDA personnel who did the necessary actions efficiently, continued to identify correctly and quickly in the emergency room, and to the successful catheterization. "

Victoria has its own conclusion. She would like to express her gratitude to Prof. Lev and Yaniv Shamis MDA paramedic. "As a result, I wish to study first aid and volunteer for MDA."
