(ANSA) - ROME, JANUARY 3 - "There will be no referendum for self-determination in Catalonia": the Spanish Socialist Party (PSOE) wanted to clarify it today, in ratifying the agreement reached yesterday with the ERC, the Catalan leftist independence, that, in exchange for the abstention of his 13 deputies in the vote of confidence in the Psoe-Podemos-Pnv government led by Pedro Sanchez, he committed himself to a negotiating table between the Spanish government and the Generalitat of Catalonia for a "political solution" to the "Catalan conflict", without foreclosures. Clause, the latter, interpreted by many as an open door also to an eventual second referendum.
Today the stakes of the socialists: "A negotiating table (consult) is not a referendum of self-determination. We do not support a negotiation for independence" of Catalonia, declared José Luis Abalos, number 3 of the Psoe and adinterim minister for Development, quoted by El Pais, specifying that isocialists are in favor of a "federal" model and a new Catalan autonomy state.
