Victories for Travaglia, Fognini and double with Bolelli but not enough (ANSA)

Italy ended the group stage of the ATP Cup with a win. At the RAC Arena in Perth Travaglia, Fognini and Bolelli beat the United States 3-0, but that's not enough, because already on the eve of the first match with the United States blues were out of the game for the transition to the quarterfinals. It was not enough for the Azzurri to impose themselves 3-0 on the USA as despite arriving behind Russia they were unable - due to a worse set difference - to secure one of the two places reserved for the best second runners to be admitted to the next round together with the winners of the six groups. As for the challenge with the USA in the first singular, between the numbers two of the respective teams, a beautiful victory by Stefano Travaglia, number 84 of the world ranking, which was imposed for 76 (3) 76 (1), in just under an hour and three quarters of the game, on Taylor Fritz, number 32 Atp. So in the match between the leaders of the two teams Fabio Fognini, number 12 in the world ranking, defeated John Isner, number 19 Atp for 64 76 (5) in an hour and a half of the game. For the 32-year-old from Arma di Taggia it was the first success in three challenges with the 34-year-old "giant" (208 cm) from Greensboro. In the doubles the blue pair formed by Fognini and Simone Bolelli defeated the Americans Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram by 64 67 (5) 10-3, in just over an hour and three quarters. In the other Group D challenge, Russia, already sure of a place in the quarterfinals, ruled the "revelation" Norway of a wild Casper Ruud 3-0 who in the singles had beaten two top 20 like Isner (saving two match-points ) and Fognini but who, while struggling, gave in to Medvedev.
