There are those who study, those in the kitchen, those who answer the call center switchboard, those who regenerate coffee machines: after dividing Italy several times between innocent and guilty, those inmates who for weeks or months, until the final sentence , they "resisted" on the front pages of newspapers now live imprisonment by engaging in work activities that allow them to maintain a bridge with society. They are paid with the wages (this is the name of the prisoners' wages), from a few hundred euros and in some cases up to a thousand euros: money that some reserve for themselves, others for their families.
Alberto Stasi, sentenced to 16 years for the murder of his girlfriend Chiara Poggi (Garlasco, 13 August 2007), is engaged in the prison house in Bollate (Milan), an advanced model of penitentiary structure, as a switchboard operator: he works at the call center of a well-known telephone company, which has entered into an agreement with "Bee4 other minds", a social enterprise founded in 2013, which offers redemption opportunities to people who met the prison.

Salvatore Parolisi aspires to the same call center , who has served almost half the sentence of 20 years of imprisonment imposed on him for the murder of his wife Melania Rea (Civitella del Tronto, 18 April 2011). The former caporalmaggiore is attending a training internship in Bollate and will soon sit next to the other switchboard operators. Massimo Bossetti is also detained in Bollate , "the end of his sentence ever" for the murder of Yara Gambirasio (Brembate di Sopra, 26 November 2010). The former Mapello bricklayer works on behalf of a company that, together with Bee4, created the Second Chance project (second possibility): refurbishing the now ruined espresso coffee machines, in the demolition phase, which are regenerated by the prisoners who, in turn, thus have a "second chance" to live.
The spouses Olindo Romano and Rosa Bazzi , sentenced to life imprisonment for the massacre in Erba (11 December 2006) are also prisoners: the first is at the stove in the clinical center of the Milan-Opera prison, the second is an attendant in the prison house of Bollate, but is also involved in the creation of leather bags and accessories for a cooperative that supports projects for children in Africa. Cutting and sewing, on the other hand, for Cosima Serrano Misseri and her daughter Sabrina Misseri , who are also life imprisoned, were imprisoned in the district house of Taranto for the murder of Sarah Scazzi (Avetrana, 26 August 2010): both carry out voluntary activities for the tailoring established in the women's section. Another life imprisonment, Angelo Izzo , convicted of the Circeo massacre (September 29, 1975) does occasional work in the Velletri prison.
Veronica Panarello , 30 years of imprisonment for the murder of her son Lorys (Santa Croce Camerina, 29 November 2014), attends a course for social services operators in the Turin prison. Michele Buoninconti also decided to dedicate himself to his studies , sentenced to 20 years for the murder of his wife Elena Ceste, the woman from Costigliole d'Asti who disappeared from home on January 24, 2014 and was found dead on October 18. The former fireman is a university tutor: an academic student, he puts his experience at the service of other prisoner-students who need support.

Two excellent inmates, both sentenced to life imprisonment, do not work: Renato Vallanzasca , the handsome René, superboss of the Milanese mala in the seventies and eighties, imprisoned in Bollate; and Cesare Battisti , the former red terrorist who was transferred to Oristano prison last year after a long hiding abroad. Antonio Logli is also temporarily "unemployed", sentenced to 20 years for the murder of his wife, Roberta Ragusa , who disappeared into thin air on the night between 13 and 14 January 2012, who is serving his sentence in Massa prison; and Manuel Foffo , held in Rebibbia prison, in Rome, 30 years of imprisonment for the murder of Luca Varani (Rome, March 4, 2016). The two have worked for a period in rotation with other prisoners and are awaiting "new employment".
