The site has asked all of its writers in the world to recommend the place they consider most important for the coming year, and Casey Hatfield-Chiotti wrote about Caesarea: "King Herod called this ancient port city" Caesarea "in honor of Emperor Augustus more than 2000 years. Today it preserves many of the impressive remains of the Roman world, including the theater, the aqueduct built in parallel to the Mediterranean and the Hippodrome with an Egyptian obelisk at its center. "
Caesarea also says on the site that the reconstruction work, under the support of Arian de Rothschild - has transformed the Old City into a leading historical tourism site, parallel to the Acropolis of Athens.
In addition, the site is reminiscent of its choice of the ancient synagogue of Caesarea - one of the oldest in the world, as well as the Crusader fortress built in the city in the 13th century. Also mentioned is the new visitor center that opened last June, and is built on the basis of the vaults that Herod built and some have been restored, where you can find ancient items, sculptures, gold coins found at sea and more.
"This summer, archaeologists intend to uncover eight more vaults, a large complex that includes a temple built for the Emperor Augustus and a staircase," the site said.
Michael Karsanti, CEO of Caesarea Development, adds that "setting the New York Times is nothing short of a vision and a dream come true for us, and it fills us with Israeli pride and tremendous professional satisfaction."
