At a time when there is a lot of talk about the deepfake phenomenon, videos or manipulated images that are considered the new frontier of disinformation, an app appears that allows you to replace your face with a still image. It's called Doublicat and is likely to become a case like FaceApp, the application that ages the faces that became popular a few months ago. Basically Doublicat uses artificial intelligence to create a deepfake with its own face.
To use it, just take a selfie and choose the moving image (Gif) to transform into. An example shown in a video is the replacement of a user's face by a frame of a film with Leonardo DiCaprio. The application is developed by NeoCortext, the same company that launched Reflect some time ago, the facial replacement app based on artificial intelligence and dedicated to photos. NeoCortex ensures users privacy, not to store biometric data and to immediately delete the selfies taken. According to rumors of a few days ago, TikTok is also building a deepfake generator.
On the other hand, the big technology companies are working to fight the phenomenon. Amazon, Facebook and Microsoft have put together a 'Deepfake Detection Challenge', while Google has shared a database containing several deepfake movies in order to train recognition mechanisms to expose counterfeit videos.
