RIMINI - Macfrut, the international fruit and vegetable fair scheduled at the Rimini exhibition center (5-7 May 2020), for the first time will host a salon dedicated to spices, officinal herbs and aromatic herbs. At the same time, together with Ismea, it launches an observatory on spices and medicinal herbs to periodically photograph the economic and structural scenario of the sector, both nationally and internationally. The presentation took place this morning in Bologna in the presence of numerous operators in the sector.
At the center of the show is a sector that in the global market for spices alone is worth over 6 billion dollars, with the organic segment alone growing steadily enough to be worth 1 billion dollars. To this are added the officinal and aromatic herbs, a market of enormous interest for Italy that produces 25 million kilos of products with 6,200 companies involved and over 24,000 hectares cultivated, more than tripled only between 2013 and 2016. And confirming the dynamism of the sector, the export of medicinal products in the last seven years has registered a + 64%, that of spices and aromatic spices + 65% (Fonte Ismea). Italy is also the world's first user of officinal herbs for the cosmetics sector, a sector in strong growth.
