Pizza day on January 17, turnover of 15 billion and 130 thousand businesses

Celebration with a toast on January 17th for the world pizza day, one of the most representative food and wine products made in Italy. Today The sector, the pride of Italian food quality and Unesco heritage with "The traditional art of Neapolitan pizza maker", has achieved an annual turnover of 15 billion and an economic movement of over 30 according to data from the CNA Study Center processed in collaboration with Cna Agroalimentare (National Confederation of Crafts and Small and Medium Enterprises).

The companies in the sector involved are one hundred and thirty thousand. One hundred thousand full-time employees who become 200 thousand on weekends. The market churns out about eight million pizzas a day, almost three billion a year.

From the Confederation's economic report it emerges specifically that between 2015 and this year the companies with a pizzeria business grew from 125,300 to 127 thousand (data updated as of March 31st). At regional level, Campania is the master in absolute terms, with 16% of the activities. Followed by Sicily (13%), Lazio (12%), Lombardy and Puglia (10%). From the food and wine point of view, traditional pizza (marinara and margherita, Neapolitan or capricciosa) remains the favorite of over three quarters of consumers (78.8%).

In second place is gourmet pizza (12.1%). 6.2% of customers choose, or are forced to choose special, organic or gluten-free pizzas for health reasons. Finally, the pizza with do-it-yourself tastes stops at 2.9%
