The Italian economy accelerates in 2020. After + 0.2% in 2019, GDP is expected to grow by 0.5% this year. In the update of the World Economic Outlook, the IMF confirms the 2020 estimate for Italy but decreases that for 2021 to + 0.7%, or 0.1 percentage points less than the October estimates.
In 2018 the Italian economy had grown by 0.8%. The Fund cuts the global growth estimates for 2020 and 2021 confirming the existence of downside risks, albeit more limited than the October estimates. After + 2.9% in 2019, world GDP is expected to grow by 3.3% this year and 3.4% next year, respectively 0.1 and 0.2 percentage points lower than the previous forecasts. The downward revision of world GDP is linked to the slowdown of some emerging economies, especially India.
