China has announced a third victim and about 140 new cases of contagion from the mysterious virus, similar to Sars, fueling new fears in the country a few days before the Chinese New Year. In Wuhan, central China where the virus appeared, 136 cases of contagion were recorded over the weekend, two more in Beijing - for the first time since the spread of the virus - and another in the southern province of Guangdong.

"It is likely that there has been an interhuman, person-to-person transmission of coronavirus in China, although for now it is very limited." The director of the Infectious Diseases Department of the Higher Institute of Health, Gianni Rezza, says this to ANSA. The knowledge "is rapidly evolving - he specified - and caution is needed on future forecasts. At the moment we cannot exclude the possibility that the virus may also arrive in the EU or Italy; the important thing is to identify and isolate cases".

South Korea confirms the first case of the mysterious virus, similar to Sars which is fueling new fears in China. A 35-year-old Chinese woman from Wuhan who was considered the epicenter of the infection contracted the virus according to South Korean health authorities. The woman had gone to hospital in Wuhan on Saturday with cold symptoms where she had been prescribed medicines before embarking on a flight to Seoul. Upon arrival in South Korea, she was placed in quarantine. Today confirms that it is the mysterious virus, a new strain of coronavirus that humans can contract. Her condition is stable and she is currently held in solitary confinement in a healthcare facility.
