Disney + arrives a week earlier than expected in France, March 24

2020-01-21T16:01:24.746Z

The Disney group's streaming platform will land in France and Europe one week in advance. And thousands of hours of progress

The launch was scheduled for March 31, but it is one week ahead: Disney + will land on our screens on Tuesday March 24, as well as in other European countries (United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Germany…) .

Why a week earlier? Disney puts forward "technical reasons": the complex technological implementation of the operation of the platform is ready sooner than expected, and given the public "high expectation" on Disney + content, the group can launch eight days in advance. In detail, here is what the offer of this new platform will represent.

A unique and very competitive price

From March 24, it will therefore suffice to pay € 6.99 per month - or € 69.99 per year - to subscribe to Disney + directly, on a website and a specific dedicated application. Thanks to an exclusive agreement, the service will also be available to Canal + subscribers through special packs. For those who choose the direct subscription, the offer is very advantageous: it is certainly a little more expensive than Amazon Prime Video - 49 € for three devices -, but Disney + will offer much more content: hundreds of hours of movies and tens of thousands of series episodes.

Above all, the offer is much cheaper than that of the heavyweight Netflix: to have 4 simultaneous screens, which offers the basic Disney + offer, it costs € 15.99 at Netflix. This launch should therefore be very attractive: in the United States, 10 million households had subscribed - during the start-up on November 12 - in 24 hours, a figure that has more than doubled since!

Simple operation

The unique four-screen offer for € 6.99 - no one, two or four-screen subscriptions like on Netflix - will make it easier to use. For those who have not subscribed to specific Canal + offers, it will be enough to go to the Disney + site or application to watch the programs offered on their computer, television, tablet or smartphone.

Subscribers can then configure up to seven different profiles (depending on the users of the same account) to find their favorites. As on Netflix, a “Children” profile can be formatted, with specific programs for their age.

Attractive novelties

If Disney + makes so much talk, it is mainly because of the novelties, both in series - beware, they will not all be visible in their entirety, but at the rate of one episode per week - than in films, which go there be broadcast exclusively. To begin with the series derived from "Star Wars", "The Mandalorian", devoted to a mercenary resembling Boba Fett. It takes place after episode VI of the saga and takes place in a universe that mixes science fiction and western. Signed Jon Favreau ("Iron Man", "The Lion King"), she notably stages Baby Yoda, who has become a mascot on social networks.

Other new products will be launched on the 24th, including “High School Musical: the series”, “The World According to Jeff Goldblum”, a documentary series from National Geographic, or a live version of “Beauty and the Tramp ". Then, later, several series already under construction are expected: another derivative of "Star Wars", devoted to Obi-Wan Kenobi, five centered on Marvel superheroes ("WandaVision", "The Falcon and the Soldier of the 'winter'…), or 'Monsters at Work', adaptation of the animated series of 'Monsters & Co.'

Lots of great classics

The richness of this new streaming platform comes from its numerous catalogs: those of Disney of course, but also of Pixar, Marvel, "Star Wars", Fox or National Geographic. Most of the great Disney classics, from "Snow White" to "Zootopia" through "Bambi" or "The Lion King", will be available, as well as sagas like "Pirates of the Caribbean".

Ditto for Fox with "Avatar" and Pixar with the "Toy Story", "Nemo" and other "Vice-Versa". On the Marvel side, sagas like "Avengers" or "Guardians of the Galaxy" will be visible, except the very last: the chronology of the French media obliges platforms to wait 3 years after the theatrical release before offering them. We will not be able to see the last two "Star Wars" right away, but episodes I to VII will be on Disney +, as well as "Rogue One", just like the animated saga "The Clone Wars".
