Fipe, restaurant but bar in crisis grows, -0.5% in 10 years

(ANSA) - ROME - Catering companies are increasing, 336 thousand in 2019, according to estimates by Fipe Confcommercio, but "businesses are growing without spaces, without staff and without services, especially in the historic centers of the larger cities ", where bars are in crisis. In ten years, the bars in the historic centers have decreased by 0.5%, while the number of sandwich bars, kebabs and takeaways has risen (+ 54.7%).

The growth in the number of active companies (which rose by over 3% in the last year too) is accompanied by a high turnover, with six out of ten companies that closed five years after their birth.

Faced with "unsustainable" costs between leasing, staff and Tari, says the president of Fipe, Lino Enrico Stoppani, "the shortcut is made by activities without service, without spaces and with staff reduced to the bone, and is favored by little policies forward-looking people who allow everyone to do everything without respecting the 'same market, same rules' principle, "but in this way" we end up impoverishing the market itself, consumer safety and the quality of cities ".
