Dioxins, furans, PCBs, formaldehyde, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons… it's crazy the amount of chemicals found inside a layer. "In order to better protect the health of babies", the National Health Security Agency (ANSES) will propose by October to Europe to restrict the presence of these substances considered "of concern". In January 2019, ANSES published an evaluation report highlighting “health risks” for the little ones. In the wake of this report, the government asked companies in the sector to eventually remove certain substances from their diapers.

Corn starch

Without waiting for the manufacturers to do it themselves, ANSES now wants to strengthen the regulatory framework within the EU. Some brands have already taken the lead: Tidoo, whose products are sold in organic networks, is for example the first brand of ecological diapers to have published online in 2013 the results of tests analyzing the possible presence of controversial substances in its products . The Love and green brand has offered a veil in contact with baby's skin of 100% natural origin since 2018, made from corn starch, sugar cane, beetroot and potato. And this year, the manufacturer claims to have succeeded in replacing 50% of absorbent microbeads designed from petroleum with microbeads manufactured with vegetable rapeseed oil.

Le Parisien, partner of the consultation "How to act together now for the environment?" ”, Initiated by Make.org, invites you to vote on the proposals made by Internet users in the module below. You will be informed of the results in February.
