(ANSA) - BEIRUT, JAN 24 - Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, followers of pro-Iranian militias, poured into the streets of Baghdad today to demand the withdrawal of the US troops from Iraq and the closure of American military bases in the country. Images transmitted by Iraqi TV shows a river of people moving in a procession in the capital, responding to the appeals of the Shiite leader Moqtada Sadr, who leads the main political group in parliament, and of the leaders of the armed-pro-Iranian militias. Calls for the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq have intensified since the Iranian general Qasem Soleimani was killed in Baghdad on 3 January in an American air raid.
