(ANSA) - NEW YORK, JAN 24 - In the final rush of the race for the Oscars and while the Academy's jurors are preparing to vote, Quentin Tarantino has his say on the "war of the films": in poleposition to make low of statuettes thanks to the ten candidates for his "Once upon a time ... in Hollywood", the director is aligned with Martin Scorsese in the Marvel suiblockbuster controversy that, dominating the market, "are killing auteur cinema".
"There is an ongoing war" between "original" cinematography and "commercial property intellectual property of conglomerates" such as Disney, Tarantino said in an interview with "Deadline", in which he expressed concern about the dominant position that certain great box-office hits, what he calls the "IP blockbusters", have established on the panorama of film distribution in the US but not only.
The reasoning is in line with that made by Scorsese when last summer, also to defend himself from going to Netflix with his "The Irishman", he launched a hard attack on Marvel films which in his opinion "are not real cinema".
Other "great old men" from the world of cinema such as Ken Loach and Francis Ford Coppola had aligned themselves with Scorsese while key figures of the franchise films including the President of the Studies Marvel Kevin Feige and the director of the "Avengers" Joss Whedon had defended their work. Tarantino, who is 56 years old, is the most important name of his generation so far to have taken part of the "auteur cinema". (HANDLE).
