(ANSA) - ELAZIG (TURKEY), JAN 25 - At least 18 victims of the strong earthquake of magnitude 6.8 on the Richter scale hit the eastern Turkish province of Elazig yesterday evening. "Rescuers are trying to extract at least 30 people stuck under the rubble of collapsed buildings in Elazig," said Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu. Many people are spending the night on the street, for injuries to buildings in fear of new shocks. "With all our institutions, including the agency for Disasters and the Red Crescent, Siamovichians to our people," wrote President Recep TayyipErdogan in a message on Twitter. Sports halls, schools and libraries were immediately used as reception centers for displaced persons. The television broadcast pictures of panicked people rushing out of the buildings and a building with a burning roof.
