(ANSA) - WASHINGTON, JAN 25 - The new Boeing 777X has taken off for its first flight after a double delay in the past few days due to bad weather. The giant of the skies departed from Everett, in the state of Washington, where the general headquarters of Boeing is located. If the tests go as expected, the company will submit an official flight authorization request to the Federal Aviation Transport (FDA). It would be an important result for the USA manufacturer still struggling with the serious crisis linked to the 737 Max model, which has been on the ground worldwide for months after the two air accidents in which it has been involved.
The 777X, capable of carrying over 400 passengers, will aim to compete with the European Airbus' A350.
Around 340 orders have already arrived from various airline partners, such as Emirates, Lufthansa, Cathay Pacific, SingaporeAirlines and Qatar Airways. The first deliveries are expected no earlier than 2021.
