Almost 1,300 migrants have landed in Italy since the beginning of the year. (HANDLE)


(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 28 - Almost 1,300 migrants have landed in Italy since the beginning of the year. According to the data of the Interior Ministry, up to this morning 870 people had arrived but these are added to the 407 on board the Ocean Viking which is heading towards Taranto after having been authorized to disembark. In the same period of 2019, 155 people had arrived in Italy. And sea rescue continues: the Open Arms rescued 237 migrants from Libya in less than 24 hours and in 3 separate relief operations. The Alan Kurdi, the ship of the NGO Sea Eye, is still located off the coast of Sicily with 77 people on board. Meanwhile, the Prosecutor's Office of Agrigento requested the filing for the head of the mission and the commander of the Sea Jonio Luca Casarini and Pietro Marrone, investigated for the illegal immigration and the failure to comply with an order given by a military ship: in March of 2019 they had not obeyed the alt and they had not stopped the engines when the ship was facing Lampedusa.
