An earthquake of magnitude 7.7 was recorded between the island of Cuba and Jamaica, at sea 10 km deep. A tsunami alert has been issued in the Caribbean.
The strong shock was also felt in Miami, Florida, where some buildings in the city center were evacuated as a precaution.
Local media reported that when the shock occurred, some residents immediately left the buildings and spilled out onto the street.
