Out of the sewers to invest the gardens, the schools and the kitchens of restaurants, the rats resurface in Paris. According to Romain Lasseur, specialist in invasive species, they represent a real health risk. In the capital, there are nearly four million, a third of which carry pathogenic bacteria. We asked the Parisians, on video, what they thought of the rodent and its presence among them.
"Cute" for some, "brawler" and "carrier of diseases" for others, it is sometimes considered a species "to eradicate". One thing is certain for Parisians: in order to reduce its presence in the capital, it is imperative to "pay attention to the waste" lying around and better protect the trash cans from their flawless appetite.
The town hall of Paris pays 1.5 million euros each year to fight against the rodent. From the deratization of green spaces to the installation of screens on the sewer plates and grids, several measures are taken. But is it enough?
