ROME - The Italian production of beer is around 14-15 million hectoliters compared to a national market figure of 19.5 million hectoliters to which 7 million hectoliters from countries across the border contribute. The production data was communicated by Carlo Schizzerotto, director of the Italian Beer consortium, on the day of the presentation in Rome of the chain mark "Artisan from the Italian agricultural chain".
The presentation, at the Coldiretti headquarters, was attended by the president of Coldiretti, Ettore Prandini, and the president of the Beer Consortium, Italian Teo Musso. The consortium, set up on March 28, 2019, is today made up of five founding members (Baladin, Marco Farchioni from the Mastri Birrai Umbri brewery, Giorgio Maso from the Altavia brewery, Vito Pagnotta from the Serro Croce agricultural brewery and Giovanni Toffoli from the Southern Agri-Food Maltery) with the aim of protecting the Made in Italy craft beer and guaranteeing the origin of the raw materials, from hops to barley up to craftsmanship. The brand is owned by Coldiretti.
Twelve are currently participating companies. The production is 58 thousand hectoliters (10% -11% of the Italian production). "Today - says Schizzerotto - the production of craft beer is 550 thousand hectoliters, 1 \ 3 of the Italian supply chain. There are 964 microbreweries" and, he concluded, "one of our objectives is to recover Italian production genetics" .
