New bac: why blocking students risk zero out of 20

2020-02-02T16:31:08.084Z

Dozens of first graders will be punished with a “bubble” on their school records, for their participation, real or supposed

Are you blocking your high school? It will be zero dotted. Here is the lethal weapon, the leaden screed by which the Ministry of National Education hopes to quell the fire of blockages, which have been smoldering and reviving since January 20 in high schools where teachers, parents and students oppose the tests of new baccalaureate, in force for young people in 1st grade.

For the single day of Monday, January 27, on 435 sites where the "common continuous testing" (E3C) were organized, the rectorates counted around sixty disturbed high schools, and sixteen in which the homework on the table had to be postponed. On January 20, the day the reform kicked off, around 40 high schools had been affected, out of 400.

According to the collective "Stop Bac Blanquer", which daily records the spread of anger, further postponements are expected this Monday, February 3. "But the threat of 0/20 scares students, we know that it can tip them over, break solidarity," worries Patrice, professor of philosophy in Normandy.

"We are not sheep!" "

This is the case with the Frédéric-Mistral high school in Fresnes (Val-de-Marne) where the blocking of the previous week should not be repeated during the catch-up, scheduled for Tuesday. "The management puts pressure on us," says Julie (the first name has been changed), in 1st general. She does everything so that the tests take place, without worrying about how we live it all… ”, balances this class delegate, shocked to find herself trapped in the arm wrestling that opposes the management to the teachers of her hutch.

To protest the reform, as in many other schools in January, teachers refused to choose the subjects of the story for continuous monitoring of their classes. "The headmaster summoned us and asked to show our notebooks to find out how far we had gone in the program," says Julie. We didn't really know what to do. We ended up saying no. We are not sheep! But this weekend, however, the strong head has revised its courses, too worried about the consequences if a zero clouded his post-bac orientation file.

These torments, Arthur (the first name has been changed) already lives them. The penalty fell on him on Tuesday, by a letter sent by the management of his school, Jean-Vilar, in Plaisir (Yvelines). "I worry a little, I was not summoned to the English remedial session, I am trying to find a way to cancel this zero", worries the young man, who admits to having "demonstrated peacefully" , the Monday before in front of his school.

"Students do not have the right to strike"

If the situation moves the federation of parents of FCPE students, who demands the cancellation of sanctions, the principals on their side remain unmoved. "The 0/20 is the rule, in the event of unjustified absence from an exam", says Florence Delannoy, assistant general secretary of the main syndicate of principals (Snpden-Unsa). "Even if it is true that much has been done, in recent years, students do not have the right to strike," said the manager of a high school in the North.

According to article 12 of the exam rules, a pupil only has the right to pass the catching up if his absence from the exam is justified by a case of "force majeure": an unforeseeable and independent reason. of the student's will. "When an entire high school is blocked, it is a case of force majeure: these are not normal conditions for examination," argues Stéphane Lucas, SES professor and union official (Snes) at Valin high school in La Rochelle ( Charente Maritime). An argument that may soon be debated in court. To have their children's slate erased, families are considering seizing the administrative courts.
