DAZN and Consumer Union present Anti-Piracy Guide

DAZN and the National Consumer Union take the field against television piracy, a criminal act punishable by fines and imprisonment which in Italy has a turnover of over 200 million euros. The streaming platform dedicated to sport and the National Consumer Union have created the Anti Piracy Guide dedicated to the phenomenon of illegal Pay TV, with the aim of informing all but especially young people about the lesser known "but very dangerous" aspects related to illegal access to channels or programs that would actually be paid. All this starting from a fact: illegally enjoying audiovisual content involves enormous economic damage.
In 2018 in Italy over 600 million euros in turnover were lost by the audiovisual industry due to piracy and users are often unaware of the fact that their money goes to feed some of the most dangerous criminal organizations in Europe. Furthermore, according to estimates, over 5 million people have illegally used live sports content, with football being the most penalized sport with two out of three pirates. The guide of DAZN and the National Consumer Union is a compass for users who want to orient themselves in the phenomenon of audiovisual piracy, we move from what is the pezzotto (the pirated decoder), to the tips on how to recognize a pirate site (unconventional language , typos, advertisements and intrusive pop ups). A separate chapter is dedicated to the risks faced by those who decide to pay for a pirated TV subscription, risks that mainly concern our data. Signing up for an illegal subscription or using a pirated site makes personal and bank data visible and available, which can be used to commit scams on behalf of other users. The consequences can be important: from credit card cloning and identity theft, to fines and in more serious cases detention. The appeal to users is to report pirated sites, as well as counterfeit decoders to the Postal Police, to Agcom and to the search engine.
Veronica Diquattro, DAZN Executive Vice President states: "We are aware that the Guide does not solve the problem of audiovisual piracy in Italy but we are committed to spreading awareness and knowledge of this phenomenon which, especially as regards sporting events, and "in dangerous growth. Making sure that this phenomenon is talked about is only the first step of a long journey that concerns all operators in the sector and, more generally, lovers of sport".
