(ANSA) - MOSCOW, FEBRUARY 5 - The American secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, alleged that Ukraine "has always lost the Crimeaper": some Ukrainian media write it, according to which Pompeo said it during his visit to Kiev last week.
The head of US diplomacy reportedly made his remarks during Friday's talks with Ukrainian civil society members. "Pompeo said that Crimea has been lost," head of the main Ukrainian anti-corruption NGO, told NV magazine Yelena Trehub. "World players are well aware that Crimea is lost," Pompeo would have said to Crimean activist Emina Dzhaparova. "Russia is not a country to which something can be taken away."
The US and EU have subjected Russia to sanctions after the 2014 crisis, however dividing the restrictive measures into two separate 'packages': one specifically on the Crime question (somewhat bland) and one relating to the interference of Donbass Moscow (i.e. 'real' sanctions) .
