Recycling your clothes also saves money

What if cleaning your cupboards would save you money? More and more brands are offering vouchers in e

Here is an overview of the brands, general public or a little less known, which collect your old textiles (clothes, tablecloths ...) and other used products and reward you with vouchers or discounts.

Fashion store vouchers

Fashion brands are the most numerous to offer such a service. This is the case with Bonobo, which has been doing this since 2009. "We are the precursor of this approach in retail," the brand tells us. The principle? “A customer can make a donation by bringing back one or more used clothes, all brands, excluding underwear and accessories. In return, he receives a voucher of 5 euros, valid for one year on the purchase of new jeans, "said a spokesperson.

H & M has been doing the same since 2013: for each bag of clothing or household linen brought in (with a minimum of three items), the brand offers its customers 15% discount on the item of their choice. "For France, nearly 6,000 tonnes of clothing and textiles were collected," says H & M.

There is also Cyrillus which since 2016 offers you a 5 euro coupon to use from 20 euros of purchases in one of its shops if you drop a bag of three pieces of textile. Or finally C & A which since December has also encouraged recycling thanks to its partnership with PACKMEE, a German association specializing in the recycling of textiles. After sending a package of old clothes or shoes to this association (Editor's note: free via the platform www.packmee.fr/ca) , you will receive a reduction coupon of 10 euros, usable in the month in stores or on the site C & A.

Shoes, empty bottles, jars and tubes of cream

Shoe brands also offer to drop off your old pairs in exchange for vouchers. Often, it is to redistribute them to associations. Just like the more than 100 Besson stores which, a few days a year, collect old boots or sneakers and transport them to the nearest Le Relais center. In exchange, you will receive the discount of 10 euros, 16 euros or 20 euros (depending on the amount of your purchases) on the pair purchased in store. Chaussea also does this on an ad hoc basis with vouchers of 10 euros from 50 euros of purchase.

Since March 2019, Mr. Mustache, who has two stores in Paris, one in Toulouse, another in Bordeaux and soon a fifth in Hauts-de-Seine (Boulogne) also collects - and all year - your old sandals or other used boots. "It's about recycling them to make soles," says Thibault Repelin, co-founder. In exchange, the customer leaves with a discount of -10% valid in the shop or online for 30 days. About 1,500 pairs have been collected since the device was put in place.

Even beauty brands are doing it. The first to launch the initiative is Sephora, since 2010. By bringing an empty perfume bottle, customers benefit from a 20% reduction on the purchase of their perfume. Marionnaud followed suit in 2016 by offering the members of its loyalty program (whose membership is free) 20% reduction on the item or the service of their choice for each product deposited. Customers can therefore bring back empty perfume bottles, jars and tubes of cream, lipsticks or mascara. In 2019, the brand collected 87 tonnes of products.

Dishes or school bags are also recoverable

More generalist brands also offer - on an ad hoc basis - to recycle your old textiles or other products. First there is Ikea which every year launches a vast national operation to take back textiles (household linens, sheets, curtains but also quilts and pillows) in exchange for vouchers of 5 euros (for 5 and 9 pieces). deposited) or 10 euros (beyond 10 pieces), applicable on all departments and valid for the time of the operation. To do this, you just have to be a member of Ikea Family.

Even better. For those who want to buy a new table service, some stores in the network offer to take back your old dishes in exchange for a discount. This is currently the case for the Ikea de Caen until February 8.

In summer, before school starts, Carrefour, Leclerc, Système U and Auchan also collect old school bags by distributing discounts (10 euros on average) to their customers valid in the stationery departments or for the purchase of a new bag.

And even your plastic water bottles can earn you money. If you bring them back to the Ecobox collection kiosks available in a hundred Auchan hypermarkets, the brand offers you 1 cent per bottle to be used on your purchases in the store.

Le Parisien, partner of the consultation "How to act together now for the environment?" ”, Initiated by Make.org, invites you to vote on the proposals made by Internet users in the module below. You will be informed of the results in February.
