The rain trickles down on the not trivial roof of the sports hall and the gymnasium of Douvres-la-Délivrande (Calvados): two photovoltaic panels cover the sports equipment. “The roofs were fairly new. We didn't need to change them, but the town took the opportunity to have these signs, ”explains Nicolas Vidizzoni, director of technical services.
Committed to an eco-responsible approach, the city launched the project in 2018, in conjunction with the Departmental Energy Union of Calvados (SDEC). An investment of 317,000 euros financed by the Normandy region (60,000 euros), the Cœur de Nacre community of communes (110,000 euros) and the SDEC (147,000 euros).
An ecological approach
The panels were put into service at the end of November and inaugurated last Wednesday. "They cover 990 m² together," explains Jérémy Bredin, energy engineer at SDEC. “It is the largest area on buildings of this type in Calvados. "
The electricity produced is then sold and reinjected into the network. "These panels can supply the equivalent of 73 homes not heated with electricity in one year," continues the engineer.
Jacky Bernard, the deputy mayor of Works knows this, the photovoltaic panels will only be profitable within 15 to 20 years. “But beyond the financial aspect, there is a real approach to sustainable development. We want to be exemplary. The Dover aquatic center served as a pilot in this area, with 118 panels commissioned in 2018.
These projects are popping up all over Calvados. Nine have already been created since 2018 and fifteen will be produced this year by the SDEC.
