Onions are not just onions. The different types of tuber must also be stored differently. While the sweet onions, which are harvested in early summer, contain a lot of water and should be stored in the refrigerator, different rules apply to the late onions.
Onions must be stored in a cool, dry and airy place
The onions that we use most frequently in this country are harvested in late summer to autumn and have a lower water content. You should not keep these onions in the refrigerator. You feel much more comfortable in a cool but dry place and can stay fresh here for months. Traditionally, onions are therefore kept in open wooden staircases and boxes or in nylon nets that allow good air circulation.

The onions that are stored at the bottom with this method are susceptible to pressure points and can spoil faster . You should therefore check the tubers regularly, rearrange them and sort them out if necessary. For a better method, which seems a bit strange, you need nylon stockings or tights .
