"Lovers lead, like bees, a life as sweet as honey." (HANDLE)

(ANSA) - ROME, FEBRUARY 18 - "Lovers lead, like bees, a life as sweet as honey". It is all in these verses, graffiti on a wine-colored wall where two white ducks seem to swim placidly, the magic of the House of Lovers, an unrivaled jewel in Pompeii, the only house still preserved, the second floor almost intact, even still with its cocciopesto floors. Closed immediately after the Irpinia earthquake which had made it unfit for use so dangerous to even result in the work, this residence of Regio I whose owner unfortunately remains shrouded in mystery reopens to the public for the first time in 40 years. "It is incredibly precious precisely because it is a unicum due to the genius of the great Amedeo Maiuri, the archaeologist who brought it to light in 1931 and who had the intuition to consolidate the upper floor of the house already during the excavation", explains Massimo Hosanna, the director of the Archaeological Park who welcomed the minister of culture, Franceschini and the press to finally put the last word on the Great Project for the safety of the site, started in 2014 after the sad season of collapses. "A story of rebirth and redemption - the pd minister smiles satisfied next to him - a model for the whole of Europe in the management of EU funds". In the span of five years, step by step, we managed to make sense of the financing of 105 million euros (75 European and 25 Italian) decided to save an unparalleled World Heritage Site from the nightmare of degradation.
