Handicapped, she launches a kitty to continue her studies at Sciences-po

2020-02-20T19:21:13.528Z

Chloé, 21, won her baccalaureate with a grade of "very good". But the young woman, quadriplegic, now a student at Sciences-po

In her wheelchair, installed in the front row of an amphitheater at Sciences-po Grenoble, Chloé Fonvielle considers that she is a student like the others. However, this 21-year-old disabled young person today fears that her exemplary career will abruptly end suddenly, for lack of an auxiliary school worker (AVS) to assist her.

Handicapped from birth, Chloé is quadriplegic, does not speak. To communicate with her, Valérie, her mother, spells out the alphabet. With a movement of the head, Chloé signals each letter with the words she wants to compose. The young Iséroise also manages to write on a computer screen thanks to a command which she manipulates with her chin and which allows her to select letters on a keyboard. Despite his handicap, Chloé has all his intellectual capacities. She brilliantly landed her baccalaureate in 2019. Mention very well.

More auxiliary to university life

“During all of her schooling, Chloé was able to benefit from an auxiliary school life from the State. In elementary school, middle school and high school, "says his mom. But Chloé does not want to stop there. She successfully passes the difficult entrance exam to Sciences-po Grenoble. And this is where things will go wrong. “We discovered that in France, at university, Chloé was no longer entitled to an AVS. However, with her heavy handicap, it is impossible for my daughter to manage on her own to follow her studies, ”insists Valérie Fonvielle.

Aziza has been Chloé's AVS for five years: “I am her double. I am his voice, his arms, his gestures. I dress her, I help her to move, to eat, to drink. I am by his side during his lessons. I make the link with his teachers, ”she explains. On her computer, Chloé writes: “No AVS, no higher education. As if after the Bac, the handicap flew away. I really want to go to the end of my Sciences-po studies in order to integrate myself into society and to be useful ”.

For her first year at Sciences-po, Chloé was able to count on the mobilization of school officials. “We were able to hire Aziza, his AVS, thanks to the financial support of the Sciences-po Grenoble foundation, which benefits from the patronage of partner companies. But it is a temporary solution. A AVS costs 25,000 euros per year. Currently we can count on 15,000 euros. Chloé's schooling will last 10 years ( note: the young woman will do each year of study in two years ). So we must at all costs find a viable solution for the future, ”explains Chloé's mother. Currently, the young disabled person is reduced to launching a kitty on leetchi.com.

Frédérique Vidal and Brigitte Macron arrested

And trying to get his message across to the Minister of Higher Education, Frédérique Vidal: "I agree with Mr. Macron when he says that all children with disabilities must be educated. But be aware that these children may want to pursue higher education. And for that, we must give them the financial and human resources. Having to launch prize pools online to try to finance their studies, I find that unfair! "

Knowing Brigitte Macron's implication on all subjects relating to education and disability, Chloé also decided to appeal to her: “Ms. Macron, I appeal to you to help me make things happen. For me and for all students with disabilities in the galley. I fought to get my Bac with honors and integrate Sciences-po. I don't want it to stop there because of the oversights of the state. ”

At Sciences-po Grenoble, everyone supports the young disabled. “Chloé has a lot of courage and will to follow the lessons with her handicap. I really admire, ”says Éloïse, a student. “What Chloé does is great because she has to work a lot more than the others to succeed. She deserves to be supported, ”says Simon Godard, director of studies and history teacher.
