SHIPWRECK SECRETS TRAILER

The U.S. merchant ship, SS Cotopaxi, left Charleston, South Carolina, on November 29, 1925 as it was loaded with coal and disappeared without a trace as she made her way to Havana, Cuba - apparently found almost 100 years after losing contact with her.

The disappearance of the ship and its 32 passengers became one of the most famous stories related to the Bermuda Triangle Legend - the infamous West Atlantic region where many ships and aircraft disappeared under strange circumstances. The remains of the Kotopexy ship were never found, nor were the lifeboats or the bodies of the passengers. Now investigators believe they found the wreckage about 55 miles off the coast of St. Augustine on Florida's northeastern coast - and those must have been there for years.

On November 29, 1925, the SS Kotopexi left Charleston in the direction of Havana under the command of Captain W.J. illustrator. The ship was reported missing two days later, on December 1st. Marine biologist and underwater scientist Michael Barnett spoke to Newsweek about the matter. "We know that on that voyage something happened to the ship because it transmitted distress signals on December 1 - and that's how it ended," he said. "Never have the wreckage, lifeboats, bodies or anything else been found. The ship has just disappeared and for a long time we've been trying to determine What happened to her. " Burnett and his team believe they were able to locate the ship's remains near the Florida coast and believe it was caught in a major storm that led to its disappearance. Brent referred to the way he and his team conducted their research: "We approach every ship like a murder case. You have the body and all you need is to find the cause of the murder and get all the information you can from what's going on around it." Brent and his team conducted a long test of the remains in order to find any sign to prove that these were indeed the remains of the ship and found some matching data.

That's how the ship was found

The Bermuda Triangle is an area that covers the area between Miami, Puerto Rico and Bermuda, where dozens of ships and planes have disappeared under mysterious circumstances over the years. Popular culture has referred to many disappearances as supernatural, but many scientists do not recognize the "powers" of the triangle and claim that the disappearances must have occurred as a result of natural phenomena and human error. Brent adds: "Each of these ships is a story in its own right - and it is true that the Bermuda Triangle is involved, but it is not the story. The reason why it is there should not be so busy for us."

In 2015, reports emerged that the ship was found near a restricted military zone off the coast of Cuba, but this was later revealed to be a stretch. The ship was also mentioned in Steven Spielberg's film "Encounters of the Third Kind," where the ship is seen in the middle of the Gobi Desert, after being transferred there by aliens. The team plans to reveal the results of its research on the "Ship Secrets" series that will be broadcast on the British Science Channel.
