Mona Lisa by street artist Invader was sold for 480,200 euros on Sunday evening February 24 at Artcurial. The result of a long auction between two people, one in the room, the other on the phone. The auction house announced a world record for the series of "object paintings" by the street artist and mosaic artist. This Mona Lisa has the distinction of having been assembled with nearly 300 Rubik's Cubes.

Realized in 2005, Rubik Mona Lisa multiplied by four its estimate (between 120,000 and 150,000 euros) during this sale dedicated to urban art at the Artcurial house on the Champs-Elysées in Paris, which dispersed several works of great street artists contemporaries. Mona Lisa in Rubik's cube, which reinterprets the famous Leonardo da Vinci painting in the modern era, is therefore entirely composed with these 3D magic cubes, an emblematic object of the 80s.
Invader, whose real name is Franck Slama, made himself known with his "invasions" in the streets of more than 65 cities in 33 countries. He even gave a name to a current characterizing his “painting-object” works: “Rubikcubism”. Rubik Mona Lisa will become the first piece in a new series revisiting the greatest paintings in art history: the "Rubik Master Pieces".

From the Lunch on the Grass by Édouard Manet to the Origin of the World by Gustave Courbet, Invader has already reproduced various pictorial works in Rubik's cube. Since 2005, numerous exhibitions have been devoted to the urban artist.
