The former season 2 finalist and iconic candidate died at 48.

He had marked the adventure game of TF1 Koh-Lanta with his two participations, and shone with his keen sense of competition. Nicolas Roy died Tuesday, at the age of 48, of jaw cancer.

Devotees of the program hosted by Denis Brogniart discovered it in 2002, during the second season, filmed on the Nicoya peninsula in Costa Rica. The man who described himself as "a real good guy in life" proved to be intractable on the screen against his 15 competitors. End strategist, he eliminated them one by one and lost 15 pounds, until the final. But he finally bowed to the winner Amel Fatnassi.

Ten years later, the adventurer father of two had tried his luck again in "Koh-Lanta, the revenge of heroes", in Cambodia, but had been eliminated after six days.

"Beyond his strategist side and excellent player who will forever mark 'Koh-Lanta', because he was really a pioneer in terms of game strategy, Nicolas understood everything," recalls Maud Garnier, his adventure partner in 2002 in Costa Rica with our colleagues from TV Magazine.

Last November, he confided in a journal about his illness. "For a third experience in Koh-Lanta, the head would probably say yes, but I have a fairly serious health problem". The show's production, Adventure Line (ALP), expressed its sadness and paid tribute to it on Tuesday.

The entire production of #KohLanta is sad to learn of the death of Nicolas adventurer of the 2nd season and of the special edition "Le revéno des heroes". We offer our condolences to his family and loved ones. 😪 pic.twitter.com/e8fDHXNnPT
